Baby Flat Head Prevention
At Baby Begin, we offer infant physical therapy for baby flat head prevention and to correct flat head syndrome. It’s important work as there are many babies who can benefit from this type of infant physical therapy, and particularly from early intervention. In fact, it is estimated that 46% of babies will suffer from some type of skull deformity caused from something as simple as their sleeping position. This is commonly referred to as “flat head syndrome” or plagiocephaly. It is very common but it is also, to some extent, preventable. You can prevent it – you just have to get started right away!
Our mission at Baby Begin is to provide families with the most up-to-date information about baby flat head prevention, and treatment of torticollis, or neck tightness. Approximately 80% of babies with skull asymmetries have a neck muscle imbalance or torticollis. If treated early enough with infant physical therapy, you can successfully reposition your baby, thus keeping the head round and symmetrical. The issue is not just the appearance of baby head shape; there are numerous medical and social implications from plagiocephaly. The infant physical therapy team at Baby Begin can show you how to avoid them.If you are on this site, you or someone you know is probably concerned about a baby’s head. The important thing to do at this point is – don’t delay. As soon as you see any type of flattening of your baby’s head, it is time to take action! A common misconception is that the flattening will “correct on its own.” This is rare and not worth the risk of “waiting to see.” Early intervention is the key in promoting a healthy baby head shape, and our talented team can provide you and your baby with the help and support you need.
